Prentice Kinser III, B.A.,
M.B.A., M.Div., D.Min., CPC, NBCDCH, served as Executive Director and
Pastoral Counselor for the Blue Ridge Pastoral Counseling Centers (BRPCC)
from 1992 to 1999. Dr. Kinser has recently retired as full-time
Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Oak Grove, Virginia, and St.
James' Episcopal Church, Montross, Virginia, having served from June 1,
2000, until November 1, 2010. He also served as Rector for 11 years
at St. James' Episcopal Church, Warrenton, Virginia, and as Interim Rector
at the following churches: St. George's Episcopal Church, Fredericksburg,
Virginia, Trinity Church, Washington, and, Grace Church, Casanova, while
their Rectors were on Sabbatical; and has served as a Sunday Supply Priest
and Vacation Supply Priest at numerous other Episcopal churches in the
Diocese of Virginia while working on his doctorate.
Dr. Kinser has provided
professional consultations, individual pastoral counseling, and
psychotherapy with individuals, couples, and other clergy and mental
health professionals, and has conducted workshops around the country.
For example, Dr. Kinser has led Vestry retreats, spiritual growth
workshops, stop smoking, weight loss, and performance enhancement
programs. He has conducted training workshops in clinical
hypnotherapy for clergy, therapists, and health care professionals. He
also founded PK WebSite Creations™ through which he has provided world
wide web site development services especially for churches, small
businesses, pastoral counseling centers, medical offices, and other
professionals. Dr. Kinser and Rabbi Ian Walk founded the
Institute of Pastoral Hypnotherapy during the 1990s, providing training
programs and certifications to clergy and mental health professionals in
clinical hypnotherapy.
Dr. Kinser has been an ordained
minister (Episcopal priest) for over 32 years. He earned a Doctor of
Ministry (DMin) degree in pastoral counseling and psychotherapy from
Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois ('97), in
cooperation with the Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care, Richmond,
Virginia. He earned a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree from the
School of Theology, University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee ('78), a
Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of
Virginia Darden Graduate School of Business Administration,
Charlottesville, Virginia ('67), and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from
Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, Virginia ('61). He is certified as a
Pastoral Counselor and Fellow by the American Association of Pastoral
Counselors, and as a Diplomate by the National Board for Certified
Clinical Hypnotherapist.
After college Dr. Kinser
explored a variety of vocations as a chemistry and physics teacher, as
administrative assistant to the Dean of the University of Virginia Darden
Graduate School of Business Administration, as vice president of
Motivational Concepts, Inc., as a real estate broker in Charlottesville,
Virginia, and also attended medical school for three semesters at the
University of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. Kinser is the author of the
doctoral thesis Prophecy, Trance and Transference: Hypnosis as a
Pastoral Counseling Modality, and of the book, Limitless Living, A
Guide to Unconventional Spiritual Exploration and Growth, published by
Ancient Otter Publishing®.
He
and his wife, Mary Ann, now reside in Ashland, Virginia (the "Center
of the Universe") and are parents of three children and four
grandchildren.
